Doug grew up on his family’s farm near Grinnell and upon graduating from Grinnell High School in 1979 attended Iowa State University where he obtained a Speech Communications degree in 1983. In 1986 Doug Started his brokerage career with Paine Webber in Omaha. Doug passed the CFP ® Exam, becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ professional in 1991. The same year a desire to return to his home town and the family farm led him to open a successful brokerage office for Brenton Bank. After nine years and the pending sale of Brenton Banks in 1999, Doug opened his own office to better serve the needs of his community, which in 2002 became Allen Financial. In 2004, Doug, purchased the building at his current location, 801 4th Avenue in Grinnell, and in 2009 began the renovations that have place the building on the National Historic Registry. In July of 2012, Doug moved to Investment Centers of America as a clearing firm, offering a full service financial consulting firm dedicated to helping its’ clients build wealth and protect their hard-earned assets. Through this relationship it allows Doug’s clients to participate in a financial service industry without being dependent on or subject to the large banking or Wall Street firms that have come to dominate the industry.
